Colds Suck

Kylie's sick. My poor baby has a common cold, and it's the saddest thing I've ever seen. She's coughing, goes back and forth between stuffy and runny nose, and her eyes are red and watery. Of course this happens right after I stop nursing her.

Our doctors office is great, and has a website that explains a lot of common illnesses and symptoms. I looked up colds and they say to keep suctioning her nose, give her saline nose drops if needed, and baby tylenol if needed.

On a brighter note, Dan got a humidifier last night and it helped so much! She wasn't as stuffy, and only woke up 2 times in the night. Today, she seemed better! She was still watery eyed and stuffy, but not as extreme. Hopefully tonight the humidifier will work its magic and tomorrow she'll be close if not at 100%!

Update 11/12/09:
Her cold is almost gone!! All that is left is the runny nose - but it's not bad at all! I'm giving the humidifier all the credit. That thing was amazing from the first night it was hooked up. So glad to have my baby feeling better.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! Dan and I always enjoy this holiday and of course I was going to dress my little bug, as well, a pretty little lady bug! Her costume was so fun: fun to dress her in, fun to look at her in, and fun to hold her in. We started our evening at home, getting dressed and taking some pics. She happily obliged her Mommy and scooted around the floor like the real thing. Then, we were off to the mall where they hold a safe night, trick or treating event every year. There were so many cute baby lions and dinosaurs, and we got some great family costume ideas for next year. *wink wink*

When we first got to the mall, we met up with two of my favorite co-workers; Cindy and Becky. Aren't their costumes fun?! Cindy made the tail and ears herself!

Later, we each took turns holding Miss Baby. It was hard to keep her focused on the camera though. She was too busy taking in everything that was going on in the mall. All the talking and people moving around in crazy costumes... Kylie loved every minute of it and talked throughout most of our trip. By the end of the night she was talking so loud it was hard for anyone not to notice the cutest lady bug ever!

Big Girl Bath

Yea! We finally moved her baby bath into the big girl bath tub! Apparently, I had been more scared about it than she was, because this bath was the funnest bath she had ever taken! She enjoyed the sound of the water rumbling into her tub, and then splashed the water around and played with some squirt toys.

This was the only decent shot we have of her in her towel. And by decent, I mean that after this picture, she flung the towel open with her hands to flash the camera! And that's how the towel stayed until we scooped her up to start baby message.

Bundled

Lucky there was a camera close by so I could grab this pic before we headed out for our evening walk. This was the first day that it was cold enough for me to really bundle her up. 3 layers on top, 2 blankets, booties, mittens, and a hat + hoodie and we're ready!

It's a Jungle

So, I love the jungle themed stuff they have for babies. We have a couple playmats and an amazing "exersaucer" that Kylie has tons of fun in. This thing is amazing! It has several stations where she can turn herself around to, and each one helps her learn new skills. For example, the lizzard is her absolute favorite these days. It goes through each color when she taps it -red, yellow, and blue - playing some music to each color that flashes. Once the colors have been played, she'll tap it again, and it plays a little song with all the colors! She actually sings along with it sometimes, which is the absolutely most sweetest thing I've ever heard. Of course she can't actually say the words yet, but she definetly is trying to say them. She's heard the song so many times that she remembers the melody and babbles to it. (...someday I'll get it on video)

These first two pics are from when we first got the activity center. She was around 3 months old. At first, we only put her in it once in a while for a few minutes, so not to overstimulte her. As you can tell by the pictures, she was taking it all in.

Here she is on the same morning she sat up by herself. We used this playmat since we brought her home. Perfect for tummy time, and developing her hand/eye coordination. Thanks Elaine and Jenny!

This one came with the exersaucer and it's home is our bathroom. She likes to entertain herself with it while I'm in the shower or getting ready for the day. Isn't she a cutie in her giraffe shirt? She fits right in!

1st Foods

At Ky's 4 month doctor appointment, we discussed how her eating habits had changed. After nursing her, she was still hungry for more. Dr. Humphrey encouraged us to begin supplementing with either formula. She also informed us that we could begin solid foods if we felt Kylie was ready. ...and she was definetly ready! She had been eyeing us eat for so long, and had recently began to motion her hand toward her mouth when we were eating, as if she wanted some too.
After this appointment, I rushed out to the store to buy all the supplies we would need to start this new adventure. But we didn't actually get around to using them for another couple weeks. Watch our little girl in action! At first, she sucked the spoon like she was nursing, but by the end of the meal she had it down. She would open wide for the spoon to enter her mouth, then close and swallow.

Here are some of the pictures.
